A Good cause

The Longest Day Challenge - with words from Tom Perkins (Evolve).

1,000 miles, Lands End to John o Groats, no motorways, 23.5 hours. It was one hell of a challenge and a truly amazing experience. Aside from the amazing adventure, great roads and beautiful scenery, three things stick in my mind:

1) The amazing support, sponsorship and words of encouragement from my friends and family. Thank you each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart. Especially thanks to my darling wife who has not only supported me in the 6 months of preparation but also created the most wonderful cards (along with the help of my amazing kids) for me to open at each pitstop. I love you!

2) The generosity and kindness of the 50 plus volunteers that make this event possible. We had 5 pitstops spread throughout the country and each one was full of kind, smiling people, giving up their time to welcome us in with applause, clean our visors, fix our bikes and give us amazing food and drink.

3) The bonds that you form with people who share your passion and are also crazy enough to do a challenge like this. The first guy I met when I arrived at Lands End was a chap called Clive. Also an advanced rider, he's a great guy and along with his friend Martin (who just got back from riding around the world solo and has ridden the Dakar rally three times!) we rode the whole 1,000 miles together. This made a massive difference as we supported each other when things got tough (which they did) and we shared a well earned beer when we finally arrived at John o Groats.
